1. Professional aid only — not engineering advice

1.1 EI Portal provides calculators, simulators, visualisers, reference material and other tools (the "Tools") relating to electrical protection, design, distribution, earthing, power-system and related subjects. The Tools and any result, value, plot, chart, interpretation, report or other output they produce ("Output") are provided for general information and as a professional aid only.

1.2 The Service is not a substitute for the independent judgement of a suitably qualified and competent engineer. It does not constitute engineering, design, safety, regulatory, legal or other professional advice, and no engineer–client or advisory relationship is created by your use of it.

1.3 Output is indicative. It is a starting point and a cross-check — not a finished design, calculation of record, certificate, or approval.

2. You must independently verify everything

2.1 You are responsible for independently checking and verifying all Output using appropriate methods, current standards and competent professional judgement before using it for any design, specification, procurement, safety, protection-setting, commissioning, compliance or sign-off decision.

2.2 You remain solely responsible for:

• the inputs, assumptions and selections you make;
• the suitability of any Tool for your particular application;
• all engineering decisions you take; and
• compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, codes and standards, and with the specific conditions of your project, installation or site.

2.3 Applicable standards and regulations — which may include, without limitation, BS 7671, BS EN, IEC and IEEE standards and equivalent national requirements — are subject to revision and interpretation. Any reference to, summary of, or value derived from a standard within the Service is provided for convenience and may be incomplete, simplified, or not the current edition. Always consult the full, current, official standard and the relevant authority.

3. No warranty

3.1 The Service and all Output are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, to the fullest extent permitted by law. In particular, we do not warrant or represent that:

• any Output is accurate, complete, current, reliable, or free from error;
• any Tool is fit for any particular purpose or for your specific application;
• the methodologies, formulae, assumptions or default values used are appropriate to your situation; or
• the Service will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free.

3.2 All implied warranties and conditions (including as to satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement) are excluded to the fullest extent permitted by law.

4. Beta software

The Service is currently provided in beta. It is under active development, may contain bugs, incomplete features and inaccuracies, and may be changed, suspended or withdrawn at any time without notice. You should expect, and account for, a higher likelihood of error than in a finished product, and verify Output accordingly.

5. Third-party content and references

The Service may reference third-party standards, vendor names, device numbers, relay models, product data and similar material for interoperability, education and reference. Such references are the property of their respective owners, are provided for identification and convenience only, and do not imply any endorsement, affiliation, certification or warranty. We are not responsible for third-party content or external resources linked from the Service.

6. Limitation of liability

6.1 Nothing in this document or elsewhere excludes or limits our liability where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for:

• death or personal injury caused by our negligence;
• fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; and
• any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law of England and Wales.

6.2 Subject to clause 6.1, we will not be liable to you, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty, or otherwise, for:

• (a) any loss or damage arising from your reliance on any Output, or from any error, inaccuracy or omission in the Service or any Output;
• (b) any indirect or consequential loss;
• (c) loss of profit, revenue, business, contracts, anticipated savings or goodwill;
• (d) loss, corruption or inaccuracy of data;
• (e) any loss arising from work, designs, installations, settings or decisions based on Output that was not independently verified; or
• (f) any loss that was not reasonably foreseeable to both you and us when you started using the Service.

6.3 Subject to clause 6.1, our total aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with the Service (whether in contract, tort, breach of statutory duty, or otherwise) is limited to the greater of the total fees you paid to us for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or £100.

6.4 The Tools are inexpensive (or free) aids. The allocation of risk in these clauses reflects that, the beta nature of the Service, and the fact that you retain full control over, and responsibility for, how Output is verified and used. You agree this allocation is reasonable.

7. If you are a consumer

If you use the Service as a consumer rather than for business purposes, you have statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and other consumer-protection law that are not affected by this document, and some of the exclusions and limitations above may not apply to you to the extent the law does not allow them.
